What Is ZIP'R For DOS?
ZIP'R is a program designed to use an existing compression program, such
as PKZIP/PKUNZIP, ARJ, LHA, or SQZ to automatically compress entire
programs (including sub-directories) when programs are exited, and
decompress them prior to execution. This saves valuable hard drive
space by compressing programs that are seldom-used. ZIP'R is unique
because it not only compresses and decompresses entire programs, but it
launches them as well!
What Is The ZIF Editor?
The ZIF Editor is a user-friendly interface for the popular ZIP'R
utility. The ZIF Editor allows users to create, edit, save, and delete
.ZIF files.
The ZIF Editor also allows registered users to modify ZIP'R's program
preferences, which are stored in the ZIPR.INI file.
What Are .ZIF Files?
.ZIF files are small ZIP'R Information Files used to supply ZIP'R with
the command line parameters necessary to automatically decompress,
execute, and re-compress programs.
How Do I Create A .ZIF File?
Create a .ZIF file by selecting File from the main menu. Then, select
New to create a new file. The .ZIF editing screen will appear, allowing
you to enter the .ZIF file information.
After creating the new file, the ZIF Editor will allow you to save your
changes. After saving the .ZIF file, you are ready to use ZIP'R.
How Do I Use A .ZIF File With ZIP'R For DOS?
After creating a .ZIF File, log to ZIP'R's default sub-directory, and
type a command line similar to the following:
ZIPR FILENAME.ZIF (Replace with the name of your program.)
or
ZIPRN TEST.ZIF (Replace with the name of your program.)
This tells ZIP'R to use the settings that were saved in the .ZIF file,
which was created with the ZIF Editor.
How Can I Learn More About ZIP'R For DOS?
You are strongly encouraged to read the file ZIPR.DOC. This text file
explains how ZIP'R works, and why it is so useful. Registered users
will receive a ZIP'R manual that contains far more information than the
ZIPR.DOC file, and shows several screen captures, tables, and charts.
How Can I Register ZIP'R For DOS?
If you are using an unregistered copy of ZIP'R, you can register ZIP'R
by purchasing it from STSI. Select Help from the main menu, and then
select Registration Information for more information. You may also
print the file REGISTER.DOC, which is an ASCII text order form.
